The reboot of The Darling Buds Of May is set to be packed full of sexy scenes.

TV producers are working on bringing back Pop Larkin and his family – and want to give it a modern feel.

And they could draw on numerous romps in the novel it was based on, written in 1958 by Herbert Ernest Bates.

Philip Franks, who starred in the 1990s TV series, reckons anyone who takes on sexy Catherine Zeta-Jones’ role Marietta can expect to get their kit off a lot.

The actor, who played Cedric “Charley” Charlton, said: “There is a lot of sex in it. And they shouldn’t shirk that, because Bates wrote really quite frankly about sex. And for anyone taking on the role of Mariette this time, it’ll be far more difficult than any of the other parts.

“The camera absolutely adored her (Zeta Jones).

“She is a great beauty in the way that Audrey Hepburn or Greta Garbo were – somebody who has an extraordinary extra life with the camera.”

The Chase host Bradley Walsh is reported to have left his role on Doctor Who after landing the lead part of Pop Larkin, played by Sir David Jason in the original.

The show got bumper ratings for ITV during its run from 1991 to 1993, and Philip hopes the remake has a similar charm.

He said: “It was a little golden thing. None of us knew what it was going to be. We didn’t think we were making a giant hit.

“We thought we were making something small and modest. Then, when it did take off, it was a huge surprise to us all.

“I hope they don’t turbo-charge it. I hope it retains its gentleness.”
