The Dark Crystal: Age Of Resistance has finally dropped onto Netflix, and it is incredible.

But while we watch the gruesome 10 part series from behind a cushion, we’re keeping our eyes peeled for potential Easter eggs from the original cult classic.

Especially the certain one that came to mind when we asked conceptual and costume designer Brian Froud if there was anything from the Jim Henson movie used in the new series.

Beaming from ear to ear, the 72-year-old smirked: ‘There is something.’

Keeping his cards close to his chest, the father-of-one told Metro.co.uk: ‘One of the surprise creatures that turns up is the only one that’s original.

‘We had to rebuild everything, but we managed to refurbish one of them, but there is something in its eye that snuck in in the original that was still there in this one.’

We wonder who it is!

Brian went onto talk about his otherworldly designs with the hope of not to give too many spoilers out.

He smiled: ‘When we started, the film took five years, and this one was a year and a half or something like that.

‘We knew we had to reproduce the old characters but when I was designing the new characters, I knew they had to relate to the old ones in shape and costume, and that was just wonderful to do.

‘The challenge was to do so many more of the Gelflings.’

In the original movie, there were only two main Gelflings, however, Brian confirmed there were 10 to design for the new release.

‘I did no research for the series, I just drew everything out of my head,’ he confessed: ‘To me, it’s all about rhythm, form, and shape, and that gives the costumes life.

‘If you give life to the costume you give life to the characters themselves.’

The icon continued: ‘Every detail is important you have to imply character, we spend a lot of effort in working on getting the texture right, and the symbols if you peer into it closely there’s all this information.

‘The other thing is, from the original film and this one, the more beautiful the puppet is, the better performance you get out of the puppeteers because they have to shine through – so everything works together.’

Despite it being a whole 37 years since the movie first graced our screens, Brian appeared more than excited to be back working on one of his most loved projects.

He said: ‘It is so exciting to be hands-on again and be in a studio at 6.30am getting a costume on a creature – but that ability to get your hands dirty.

‘A little bit of blood is good when it hurts you, you become part of this thing that is art.

‘When you get these experts bringing it to life, and bringing life to something, it’s just extraordinary.’

The Dark Crystal: Age Of Resistance is available to stream on Netflix.
