The Crown's Josh O'Connor thanks sticky-out ears for landing role as Prince Charles

They say getting your big break in showbiz takes talent and luck.

For Josh O’Connor it has taken a little more than that – he also needed sticky-outy ears.

When Josh heard season three of Netflix hit The Crown was being re-cast, he knew his luck was in.

He says: “I did think immediately, ‘Who’s gonna play Charles?’ I don’t know anyone my age who’s got these. They’re not huge but they stick out.”

Once he’d bagged the dream role, he quickly realised it was actually a bit of a nightmare.

He says: “The first thing I learned is that it’s totally impossible to replicate the real man. I don’t know who he is, none of us do.”

Josh has mastered the things we do know about the prince, though.

He has got his walk “like a tortoise”, he says, “down to a T”.

Josh had a blast filming The Crown, especially working with a certain Oscar winner. He says: “You have to stop yourself mid-way through a scene and be like, ‘I’m acting with Olivia Colman!’
