The Sunday premiere is a change of pace for the US streaming platform which has typically dropped its big shows on a Friday to allow audiences time to binge over the weekend.

However, in recent years, Netflix has changed this up with Jessica Jones landing on Netflix on a Thursday in 2018 to coincide with International Women’s Day.

Similarly, Stranger Things season three was released on July 4 this year, partly to coincide with the American holiday but also because the US Independence Day was featured in the show.

Netflix also made a last-minute change which saw Sacred Games season two released at midnight Indian Time on August 15 as part of the nation’s independence day.

Usually, all shows are dropped at midnight Pacific Standard Time because this is where Netflix is headquartered – but the streamer clearly had its Indian audience in mind.

But it looks like Netflix could be changing the game to better suit the content of the show as well as the audience.

If The Crown was on a British channel, it is highly likely it would be in a Sunday night slot like Downton Abbey or Victoria – so perhaps the streamer is trying to tap into this culture of viewing.
