The campest beauty looks from the Met Gala 2019

Met Gala attendees aren’t renowned for their subtlety, and this year’s “Camp” theme allowed the A-List guests to give in to their most extra impulses.

This mainly translated into more ruffles than you’ve seen since your parent’s wedding album and an array of headpieces that were, frankly, a health and safety hazard.

The outfits were loud, the air punctuated with the rustling, tinkling and flapping of oversized trains, feathered capes and Katy perry’s candelabra, but it was perhaps this year’s beauty looks that spoke the loudest.

From two-inch fake eyelashes, nail tassels and third eyes, here are some of the campest beauty looks of the night.

Ezra Miller

The top beauty spot goes to Ezra Miller whose face was adorned with three sets of painted eyes, making him look like a walking hall of mirrors. Warning: looking at his face for too long will give you a headache.

Lady Gaga

Naturally Gaga didn’t disappoint. Her exaggerated gold and black lashes were created by her personal makeup artist Sarah Nicole Tanno, who used Marc Jacobs beauty products. It’s a miracle they didn’t all fall out after her four outfit changes.

Michael Urie

The Ugly Betty actor did not do things by halves… well, you know what I mean. Urie, who was dressed by Christian Siriano, had his two-faced beauty look painted by Christopher Ardoff. Siriano captioned an Instagram post of Urie’s finished look with: “You can be your own prom date no matter who you are.” Hear, hear.

Billy Porter

“One should either be a work of art or wear a work of art,” Oscar Wilde’s famous quote was the inspiration behind Billy Porter’s jewel encrusted, golden look.

Lupita Nyong’o

Lupita’s shimmering rainbow eyeshadow matched her lurid (and I mean that in the best way) Versace gown. Her hair was studded with gold afro picks, which were spray painted by hair stylist Vernon François the previous day.

Elle Fanning

She literally had objects hanging off her nails. Derek Blasberg summed it up in his Instagram shot of the actress:

Lizzo

The singer’s candy-pink wig would have made Frenchy from Grease weep with jealousy. Lizzo accessorised her pink Marc Jacobs’ dress with fuchsia nails and matching eye shadow – colour blocking at it’s finest.

Kacey Musgraves

This Barbie inspired Moschino beauty look was #flawless. The Grammy Award winning country singer covered her dark brown hair in a platinum blonde wig, which took her stylist Giovanni Delgado “days to prepare”. Elle Woods eat your heart out.

Lily Collins

Lily Collins channelled Priscilla Presley’s wedding album with her OTT sixties beauty look. Her brown hair was thickened with waist length hair extensions and dotted with delicate floral accessories. She put her own modern twist on a classic sixties eye with a pop of lavender eye shadow.

Joan Collins

Last but certainly not least, Joan Collins is surely the original Queen of Camp? The Hollywood icon went as her Dynasty alter ego, Alexis Carrington Colby, donning a red lip and smoky eye, ignoring the one or the other beauty rule completely. And she looked fabulous dahling.
