Autumn’s arrival brings with it many things, like chilly weather, fall foliage, pumpkin spice everything — and major game releases. October already saw a few big titles drop, like Metroid Dread, Far Cry 6, and Guardians of the Galaxy. Nostalgia reigns supreme in November as the month kicks off less with new game releases and more so with game re-releases.
Let’s check out what video games are hitting stores this week.
Game & Watch: The Legend of Zelda (11/12)
After Nintendo’s success with Game & Watch: Super Mario Bros. last year, celebrating the 35th anniversary of Super Mario Bros., the company is back at it again with Game & Watch: The Legend of Zelda releasing this week. Included in the unique handheld are the first game in the series, The Legend of Zelda, Zelda II: Adventure of Link, and the Game Boy version of The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening. A special version of Vermin with Link as the player character will also be a part of the package. The Game & Watch retails for $49.99 and presumably won’t be available for long as the Game & Watch: Super Mario Bros. was discontinued a few months after its release.
Forza Horizon 5 (11/9)
Racing games are a great way for Microsoft and Sony to show off the technical prowess of their new consoles early in the generations. Microsoft strikes first this generation with Forza Horizon 5 this week coming to PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S. It’s an open-world racing game set in a fictionalized version of Mexico, which promises to be the largest map of any Forza game. Forza Horizon 5 has already received heaps of praise, with GameSpot, Game Informer, and IGN all scoring it somewhere between 9 and 10.
Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition (11/11)
Rockstar celebrates the 20th anniversary of Grand Theft Auto III this week with Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition, which included remastered versions of Grand Theft Auto III, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, and Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. Visual enhancements include “completely rebuilt lighting system; improved shadows, weather, and reflections; upgraded character and vehicle models; along with new higher resolution textures across buildings, weapons, roads, interiors, and more,” according to Rockstar, as well as updated controls to match those of Grand Theft Auto V. The digital version releases this week while physical copies will hit shelves next month. This will help tide fans over until Grand Theft Auto V gets ported over to the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S next year, after being delayed, and until Grand Theft Auto VI releases… someday. Maybe.
