Travel has been off the agenda for most of us this year, with restrictions in place from countries, airlines, and hotspots due to coronavirus.

Fingers firmly crossed we’ll be able to see the world more at some point in 2021, soaking in all the culture we’ve missed out on due to coronavirus. Although some people aren’t quite so optimistic.

There are plenty of places we’re desperate to head to once we’re allowed, with tropical beaches and areas of outstanding natural beauty coming out on top.

TripAdvisor have announced their 2021 Travellers’ Choice Awards, and you will be pleased to know that some places are a lot closer to home.

St Ives in Cornwall, always a favourite with Brits, is fifth on the list of emerging destinations thanks to water sports and hiking trails.

Hayley Coleman, TripAdvisor spokesperson, said: ‘These are destinations that travellers want to visit next – whether an existing tourism gem, or an off-the-radar spot not yet firmly on the map for international travellers.

‘It is no secret that St Ives is a well loved and long established tourist haven, with its picturesque harbour, beautiful beaches and buzzing art scene, but its place on this list shows just how much travellers are missing it and longing to visit again, once COVID-19 restrictions ease.’

London, as you’d imagine, came second in popular destinations, while York was 22nd in trending. Basically, staycations don’t seem to be totally dead.

Top spot in each category, however, were Martinique for emerging, Cabo San Lucas for trending, and Bali for popularity. Can you tell we’re all looking for a sunny escape?
