The best Malta holiday packages for adventure seekers

Summer isn’t all about lazing around in the sun (Picture: Getty images / iStockphoto / Alamy Stock Photo / Acorn family holidays)

With the UK supplying sun rays in spring, perhaps by summer you will be done with lazing around with a book.

Or maybe, you couldn’t think of anything worse than sitting still when there’s so much to be explored.

If this is you, then no fear. We have put together the very best package adventure holidays in sunny Malta to get your blood pumping on your summer holiday this year.

Why not do something different?

Explore Malta, Gozo and Comino

Start with some gentler thrills with a trip that explores Malta, Gozo and the even tinier Comino. You can soak up the history in the capital, Valletta, by visiting sights such as St John’s Co-Cathedral, Upper Barrakka Gardens and Grand Harbour.

There’s also the colourful fishing town of Marsaxlokk (above) and Hagar Qim, the remains of an ancient temple that dates back to 3600BC.

On Gozo you can get the heart pumping with a hike along the beautiful coastline (don’t forget to visit the Roman Xwejni Salt Pans, where they still harvest salt), while a kayak across to Comino will up the ante.

Your reward? An exploration of its famous Blue Lagoon.

Book six nights in a B&B from £1,241, excluding flights at The Adventure People.

Book BA flights from London to Malta from £56 one way.

Go coasteering and ziplining in Malta

Throw yourself in at the deep end – almost literally – with an adventure holiday that takes in some Maltese mayhem such as coasteering and ziplining over the sea.

For coasteering novices, this involves exploring a rocky coastline by jumping, climbing and swimming… with the added bonus of caves.

Later (not on the same day, thankfully) you’ll zipline from a height of 50m above rugged rocks and open sea. If that’s all too exciting, there’s the option of a day at a water park, where you can chill by the pool or take to the slides.

Book six nights’ full-board from £699pp, excluding flights at Acorn Family Holidays.

Adventure group holiday in Gozo

Malta’s little sister island, Gozo, offers plenty of action – on this trip you’ll do everything from sea kayaking to rock climbing. Ease in with a boat trip, where you can swim and snorkel, before building up to scuba diving, where you’ll catch wonderful marine life.

To ramp up the experience, don a helmet and harness, and scale the side of a rock. Once you’ve marvelled at the views, you’ll abseil back down.

You’ll stay in a simple but comfortable hotel in Xaghra village, close to the ancient Ggantija Temples.

Book an eight-day group adventure from £1,195pp, excluding flights at Responsible Travel.
