The best 50 dresses to ever grace the Cannes Film Festival red carpet

As the biggest names from the runway fly out to join the biggest names from the screen on the Cannes Film Festival red carpet, talk inevitably turns to dresses.

Which designers have teamed up with which stars? And will anyone even dare to bare more than Bella Hadid did in her high-leg slit Alexandre Vauthier gown in 2016?

With mere days to go, we look to previous stars of the Cannes red carpet in anticipation of 2019’s instalment.  And let us tell you, the prestigious event has not been shy of sartorial statements over the years.

From Jennifer Aniston in halterneck Atelier Versace in 2004 on the arm of then-husband Brad Pitt to Kate Moss wearing marabou feathers as she sashayed alongside then-boyfriend Johnny Depp in 1998, Cannes Film Festival has provided us with 70 years of style inspiration.

More recent looks that have lingered on in the memory have been worn by the likes of Rihanna – whose all-white Dior look last year stole the show, along with Blake Lively’s perfect-princess maternity gown.

And while we can only speculate as to who may take the crown for this year’s best dressed, we’d recommend keeping one eye on the Insta-model likes of Kendall Jenner, Gigi and Bella Hadid who never fail to pull out all the stops.

Elle Fanning is one to watch this year as she has joined the Jury for Cannes 2019. She will be joined by members Kristen Stewart, who will no doubt take to the red carpet in numerous Chanel looks, and actress Cate Blanchett.
