The Bay started on ITV with Tracie Bennett joining the cast as Margaret Foley, grandmother of the central missing twins. Margaret Foley is played by Tracie Bennett in The Bay on ITV.
The 57-year-old actress is best known as Sharon Gaskell, who appeared on Coronation Street from 1982 to 1984 before returning in 1999.
The actress made her TV debut, however, in 1981 in a drama titled Going Out.
She entered Corrie in March 1982 as the foster child of Len (Peter Adamson) and Rita Fairclough (Barbara Knox).
She was adopted by another family but later ran away back to Weatherfield after finding her new home too posh.
The character left in 1984 and was not seen on the street again for 15 years.
In 1999, she returned to the street to invite Rita to her wedding.
However, she ended up staying in Weatherfield for long enough for Rita to gift the Kabin to her.
However, after a failed love affair drove her to nearly attempt suicide, she decided to leave Weatherfield for good.
In the years between her stints on Coronation Street, Bennett appeared in series like Rich Tea and Sympathy, Making Out, and Next of Kin.
She also appeared in Oscar-nominated film Shirley Valentine in 1989 alongside Alison Steadman, Joanna Lumley, and Tom Conti.
Bennett’s first recurring role after Corrie was in 2003 series Burn It.
She followed this with parts in The Bill, Dalziel and Pascoe, and Doctors.
Recently, Bennett played a recurring role in ITV’s Scott and Bailey.
Tracie Bennett has also enjoyed a career on stage in theatre and musicals.
Most recently, she starred in the National Theatre’s production of Steven Sondheim’s Follies.
