Andy Serkis has been confirmed to play Alfred in The Batman, following in Sir Michael Caine’s footsteps.

He’s definitely got big shoes to fill.

However, the star, who’s known for voicing Gollum in Lord Of The Rings, is sure to smash it.

Matt Reeves, the director of the upcoming flick, confirmed the news in a tweet, sharing a gif of Andy high-fiving fans on a red carpet and writing: ‘And here comes Alfred!’

Fans are definitely into the casting, with one writing: ‘Hell yes!!!’ and another telling him: ‘Welcome Andy.’

One more added: ‘Thank you again for saving cinema with this movie sir.’ Give the man a chance.

With the casting, Andy’s become one of the few actors to switch between Marvel and DC, previously playing the villainous Klaue in Black Panther.

It’s not the most surprising news, however, considering it was previously reported that the star was ‘in talks’ to play the butler previously portrayed by Sir Michael in Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight trilogy.

According to Variety, Colin Farrell is also apparently circling the role of Oswald Cobblepot aka the Penguin, another of Batman’s enemies.

Meanwhile, Robert Pattinson is confirmed to play billionaire Bruce Wayne and Zoe Saldana is set to take on Catwoman.

Halle Berry, who famously played Catwoman, previously made it clear she approves of Zoe landing the role, welcoming her to the team.

In a series of Instagram stories, Halle said: ‘Special #WCW shout-out to your new #CatWoman, the eternally graceful & extremely bad a*s @zoeisabellakravitz [sic].’

She added: ‘Keep shining Queen & welcome to the family! #CatWoman [sic].’

Halle famously portrayed the heroine in the 2004 movie Catwoman, although it was heavily panned by critics and has just a 9% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and 3.3 out of 10 on IMDb.

Let’s hope Zoe and the gang fare a little better.

The Batman is set for release on 25 June 2021.
