The Bachelorette's Angie Kent reveals why she REALLY broke up with Carlin Sterritt

The Bachelorette‘s Angie Kent has broken her silence on her split from Carlin Sterritt, saying their relationship fizzled out after they left the reality TV ‘bubble’.

The former Gogglebox star, 30, told The Kyle and Jackie O Show on Wednesday that their romance in the outside world didn’t live up to the intense chemistry they shared during filming last year.

She also claimed that her ex-boyfriend’s Christian values were a problem for her because she prefers ‘spirituality’ to organised religion.

‘We finished filming in August last year, and Carlin and I decided to break up… it would have been around June,’ she said.

‘We were discussing, “What are we going to do? It’s getting hard.” But we didn’t really announce [the split] until about July.’

Angie explained that they decided to call it quits after she left Sydney to spend time with her family in Queensland.

‘It just wasn’t good. I just kept staying [in Queensland] and he was kind of like, “What are we doing?”‘

Angie said they ‘tried’ to make things work, but the romantic ‘bubble’ they made for themselves on The Bachelorette didn’t translate into reality.

‘It was a good for a while, until it wasn’t,’ she added.

‘Our values were different. I’m a little more spiritual, a little bit more carefree and wild, whereas he’s more, you know, kind of…’

Radio host Jackie ‘O’ Henderson interrupted: ‘A Christian boy.’

‘He’s a Christian boy,’ Angie agreed. ‘He’s just… we’re just different.’

Angie also set the record straight on rumours that their relationship started to fall apart after Carlin discovered she was texting runner-up Timm Hanly.

She clarified that she reached out to all the contestants from her top four to make sure they were okay, and not just Timm.

‘There was nobody else involved in our break-up. It was just him and I,’ she said.

‘I was very open about the fact I spoke to my top four dudes right after filming, because you go on such a hectic love safari – you technically go through four break-ups with dudes that you really like. Of course I’m going to check in on them.

‘I always told Carlin when I did. Timm and I stopped talking in December last year, and Carlin and I broke up only two months ago, so it had nothing to do with Timm.’

Carlin, 32, had told the How to Life podcast earlier this month that Angie’s bond with Timm made him feel insecure, even though he pretended to be okay with it at first.

‘She really cared for Tim. They were kind of messaging a little bit afterwards. I was trying to play it cool, like “it’s fine, it’s all good,”‘ the personal trainer said.

Despite telling Angie he didn’t mind her staying in contact with Timm, Carlin’s self-confidence plummeted when he discovered their friendly texts.

‘I was trying to be nice and I was trying to do the right thing,’ he said. ‘And then more and more, her and Timm messaging each other, it just started to really eat me away.’

After the Bachelorette finale aired, Angie went on to film Dancing with the Stars, which also caused problems in their relationship.

Carlin said that Angie’s friendship with her professional dance partner, Julian Caillon, didn’t help with his feelings of insecurity.

‘Then she goes on to the next show, Dancing with the Stars, with this hot Italian dude and I’m like, “Oh man, this is not easy. He’s a good looking dude,”‘ he said.

‘She would train five hours a day with this guy, five days a week, and then fly to Melbourne for four days.

‘So I’m like, “You get to spend so much more time with this guy and I’m still feeling pretty s**t about having just watched you mack on with all these other dudes [on The Bachelorette].”‘

‘I wasn’t ready for it. So we had a pretty difficult run,’ he added.

Carlin and Angie dated for about 10 months before calling it quits in early July.

Reflecting on their short-lived relationship, Carlin said it was difficult to watch Angie form connections with the other men on The Bachelorette.

He said: ‘Watching it all back, it’s almost as if someone has just handed you their Tinder [account] and said, “Have a scroll.”‘

Carlin didn’t blame Angie for his insecurity, however, and told the podcast hosts he was ‘getting therapy’ to address his problems.
