Around 797,000 metro viewers tuned in to see Matt Agnew pick his final three after visiting the four remaining bachelorettes’ hometowns.

The only other episode of The Bachelor that has rated higher this season was the premiere, which aired in July, according to TV Tonight.

The premiere still boasts the highest ratings of the season so far with 828,000 metro viewers, but it’s expected the finale on September 19 will exceed this.

Emma Roche was eliminated from The Bachelor mansion on Thursday’s episode, after she failed to receive a rose from Matt.

He instead gave roses to Abbie Chatfield, Chelsie McLeod and Helena Sauzier, despite Helena expressing serious doubts about their relationship.

During Helena’s hometown visit, Matt caused offence by forgetting how the health coach had first introduced herself to him at the start of the season.

‘You didn’t speak French on the red carpet, from memory, did you?’ Matt asked her during the family meal.

Helena was shocked by this question, as just moments earlier Matt had spoken about their ‘instant spark’ at the first cocktail party.

‘Oh, my God, Matt… I spoke French, like, the whole time. I spoke, like, quite a lot of French,’ she said, looking visibly shaken.

Later on, Helena’s sister Ali told her in a private conversation that Matt’s memory lapse was a ‘massive red flag’ that his feelings weren’t genuine.

Helena then confronted Matt, saying: ‘If I like someone, I think I would really remember those little things. That kind of… that kind of scared me.

‘I can tell that you’re not in this. My family can tell. Me, I’m just, like, “What am I doing here?”‘

Matt tried to get Helena to calm down, but she remained a roller coaster of emotions for the rest of the episode and tried to quit not once, but twice.

After flip-flopping for a while, eventually she agreed to return to the Bachelor mansion in Sydney for the Rose Ceremony.

The Bachelor continues Wednesday at 7:30pm on Channel 10
