The Baby-Sitters Club is being rebooted for a Netflix series and we couldn't be more delighted

Big news for fans of Kristy, Claudia, Dawn, Mary-Anne or Stacey a.k.a the The Baby-Sitters Club, because the unstoppable teenage girls are coming to our screens very soon.

Netflix has confirmed it’s producing a live-action TV series based on the beloved Ann M. Martin best-selling books.

According to Deadline, the streaming giant has ordered a 10-part reboot of the iconic 80s show that will follow the “friendship and babysitting adventures” of the five best friends in the sleepy town of Stoneybrook, Conneticut.

Released in the mid-80s, The Baby-Sitters Club book series was a roaring success thanks to its multiple female leads and relatable teenage themes such as friendship fallouts, relationship troubles, and of course, the baby-sitters’ very own start-up business.

It’s expected that the upcoming adaptation will see the girls’ navigate their growing pains and entrepreneurial ventures, as well as a range of issues facing modern day teenagers, such as “racism, divorce and belonging.”

“I’m amazed that there are so many passionate fans of The Baby-Sitters Club after all these years,” author of the series Ann M. Martin told Deadline.

“And I’m honored to continue to hear from readers — now grown, who have become writers, editors, teachers, librarians, filmmakers — who say that they see a reflection of themselves in the characters of Kristy and her friends.”

Melissa Cobb, VP Kids & Family at Netflix told the publication: “The themes of The Baby-Sitters Club still resonate 30 years after the original book series was released, and there has never been a more opportune time to tell an aspirational story about empowering young female entrepreneurs.

“Our ambition is to contemporize the storylines and adventures of this iconic group of girlfriends to reflect modern-day issues.”

As well as bolstering female representation on screen, a host of badass women in film have been lined up to produce the series, including GLOW‘s Rachel Shukert serving as showrunner and Broad City‘s Lucia Aniello serving as both director and executive producer.

There’s no word yet on a release date for the series but safe to say we’re ready for the 90s nostalgia. Scroll down for the best stuff to watch on Netflix right now…
