The Apprentice kicked off with a spectacular mix of cringe and bickering, with one candidate even mistaking a rhino for an elephant during a task.

In the first episode of the 2019 series, the 16 candidates were jetted off to Cape Town in South Africa, where they were tasked with delivering and selling a special tour experience to tourists.

While the Girls opted for a luxury wine tour, the Boys decided to offer a safari in the wild – challenging them with brushing up on their animal knowledge.

One person who skipped their animal crash course was Riyonn Farsad, who told his customers how a bunch of elephants were approaching on the left.

‘If you look to your left now, there’s the elephants,’ Riyonn said.

Turns out, they were actually rhinos – leaving Riyonn slightly embarrassed by the mix up.

‘I do apologise I haven’t got my glasses on,’ Riyonn joked as the rest of the tour chuckled.

Glasses or no glasses, people were caught between meltdown and hysterics.

Maybe we’ve been wrong all along?

Luckily the tour did eventually get to see some elephants. And they definitely were elephants.

The first casualty of the boardroom was Shahin Hassan, who was blamed for the failure of the task due to not selling enough tickets.

The Apprentice continues Wednesday BBC One at 9pm.
