When does The Affair Season 5 start and how can you watch it?

The good news is The Affair is back for another series.

But the bad news it’ll be the last, sob.

Showtime’s President of programming, Gary Levine, said in a statement:

“We love the intimacy, the nuance and the emotional honesty of The Affair’s subjective examination of both infidelity and fidelity.

“Sarah Treem [showrunner] has always envisioned this as a five-season series, and we will be fascinated to see where she takes her talented cast and all of us next year in its climactic season.”

The show will be back on Sky Atlantic on Tuesay, August 27, 2019, as well as being available to stream on the same day for Now TV users.

Who is in the cast of The Affair season 5?

We haven’t got exact confirmation of the cast yet.

But we can safely say that Alison – played by Ruth Wilson – will not be returning as she died in season 4.

It has also been reported by Entertainment Tonight that Cole – played by Joshua Jackson – will no longer be regular cast member but could still make guest appearances.

We do know that True Blood’s Anna Paquin is joining the cast of series 5 to play a grown up version of Alison and Cole’s daughter Joanie in fast-forward scenes.

Anna told Entertainment Weekly: “I had seen and loved the first season, [and]…I did a full marathon of all the episodes when I was hired to make sure I fully understood the world of the show

“It was helpful to get to know my onscreen parents as their characters and learn about Joanie’s childhood

“She’s a coastal engineer and is, I think, appropriately cynical about the prognosis of the planet from an environmental standpoint. She ends up in Montauk on an assignment from work.”

And Dominic West will be returning as Noah, while Maura Tierney will reprise her role of Helen.

Likewise Noah and Helen’s children – Whitney, Trevor, Stacey and Martin – will all be played by the same actors – Julia Goldani Telles, Jadon Sand, Abigail Dylan Harrison and Jake Siciliano.

What happens in The Affair season 5?

According to the official synopsis for the final series, this is what we have in store:

“Season five will chronicle the aftermath of last season’s horrific events and find the characters coming to terms with the consequences of their choices – as they make the realisation that if they really want to change their futures, they must first face the past.

“This final season is about how everything does really fall apart in the end, but somewhere in that wreckage, the seeds of change finally sprout.

“Helen begins the season involved in an intoxicating new affair with a charismatic movie star, who offers to give her everything she’s been missing. Noah meanwhile has to swallow his pride and his jealousy and step in to take care of his family in her absence.

“But just when things seem to have stabilised, a chance encounter with someone from the distant past sets in a motion a sequence of events that brings them both to their knees.

“Anna Paquin stars as Alison and Cole’s now adult daughter Joanie Lockhart, who returns some years in the future to piece together the truth about what happened to her mother, bringing the whole story full circle.”

What is The Affair?

The show explores the emotional effects of an extramarital relationship between Noah Solloway and Alison Lockhart (Dominic West and Ruth Wilson) when they meet in the resort town of Montauk in Long Island.

That is until Alison met her untimely death in season four.

The series is now in its fifth season.

You can watch it on Amazon Prime video, NowTV, SkyGo and on Sky Atlantic.
