WHAT is it like? In the town that gave us Fawlty Towers, this was faultless.
Owners Andy and Julian, who won C4’s reality TV contest Four In A Bed in their previous place, transformed an old B&B into a 5-star, six-room masterpiece.
From the multicoloured mannequin that greets you as you step in to the home-made treats baked by Andy and the sumptuous drawing room, everything is done with flair and attention to detail. It lived up to its billing as the World’s Best B&B.
Rooms any good? Tremendous. We stayed in possibly their most famous suite, the Torre room, with black-and-white striped wallpaper and Frank the zebra watching over you.
TVs in the bedroom, dressing room and even bathroom. It’s a smart room, controlled by Amazon Echo, with an iPad, too.
The bed was ridiculously comfortable.
Eat here or grab a pizza? Julian does a brilliant breakfast and they cater superbly for allergies (with a fiancee who’s coeliac, a massive bonus).
We ventured out for lunch, to Cantina in Goodrington, and had a great sandwich.
After a drink in Torquay we went to the town’s oldest pub, The Hole In The Wall, for a great hearty dinner.
What else? Central location handy for a stroll to the harbour via Torre Abbey. At Living Coasts Zoo & Aquarium you can see penguins, puffins and feeding time for the seals.
Would you go back? Definitely. It’s adults-only so is a treat for couples.
What’s the damage? B&B from £64.50pp based on two sharing.
