The 1975 have delivered bittersweet news for fans after cancelling all of their tour dates for this year while also announcing a new album.

The Robbers hitmakers – consisting of Matt Healy, Ross MacDonald, George Daniel and Adam Hann – shared a statement on Tuesday confirming they will no longer be touring as planned in 2021 due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

‘We are really sorry to announce that we have made the decision to cancel all scheduled touring for 2021,’ the statement began.

They continued: ‘These are incredibly difficult times for a lot of people, and until we can be sure that we will be able to play shows in a way that is safe for our fans and crew, we have decided the best course of action is to cancel our touring so that, where possible, everyone can get their tickets refunded sooner rather than later.’

The 1975 were expected to perform across the UK, Europe and the US with dates including Finsbury Park and Golden Gate Park in San Francisco.

Fans will now have to hope to see the Matty and co. on-stage again 2022 but at least they should be armed with new music.

The Brit Award-winning group are coming up to a year since the release of their fourth studio album, Notes on a Conditional Form, which reached number one in the UK becoming their fourth record to do so.

Singles included If You’re Too Shy (Let Me Know), Me & You Together Song and People.

When they do return to the stage, fans might find The 1975 being a little more selective about which festivals they sign up to.

Last year, frontman Matt pledged to only perform at festivals which have a gender-balanced line-up.

After music journalist Laura Snapes called for the band to ‘add a condition to your rider that says you’ll only play festivals that commit to X% (ideally 50%!) acts that include women and non binary performers’, Matt replied: ‘Take this as me signing this contract – I have agreed to some festivals already that may not adhere to this and I would never let fans down who already have tickets.

‘But from now I will and believe this is how male artist can be true allies [sic].’

He continued: ‘Point is that Reading and Leeds with more women would be honestly the best festival in the world that place is vibeyyy. Let’s not judge people and give the benefit of the doubt that people are going to start to listening ❤️❤️I can feel the change !!’
