Tesco to give Clubcard members up to 50% off as part of special loyalty card promotion

TESCO is to give Clubcard holders discounts of up to 50 per cent on selected items to celebrate the supermarket’s 100th birthday.

In plans revealed in leaked documents seen by MoneySavingExpert, the loyalty points bonanza is due to last almost three weeks.

Customers are to get extra discounts across a range of products

It comes weeks after we reported how the supermarket is testing giving Clubcard member lower prices at the till.

Tesco is keeping tight-lipped on the plans but MSE reports that loyal customers spending cash between Tuesday May 7 and Sunday May 26 will see extra discounts added at the checkout.

The document, which was handed out to staff at Tesco Express stores, reveals that shoppers will get discounts “on a whole range of products, from coffee to cat food, as well as F&F clothing and BBQ tools in larger stores.”

Signs are due to be put up around the stores to show which products are on offer. For example:

  • 50 per cent off Nescafe Alta Rice instant coffee (100g) – down to £2.50 from £5
  • 33 per cent off Lipton Ice Tea peach flavour (1.25L) – down to £1.16 from £1.75
  • 25 per cent off Monster Origin energy drink multipack (4x500ml) – down to £3.63 from £4.85
  • 15 per cent off Tesco Luxury soft toilet tissue (9 rolls quilted) – down to £3.35 from £3.95
  • 15 per cent off Tesco Finest lightly salted crisps (150g) – down to £0.85 from £1

But it’s worth bearing in mind that, as Tesco won’t confirm whether the discounts are going ahead, what’s on offer may be subject to change.

Shoppers won’t have to do anything extra to get the offers either as the bonus discounts will automatically be applied to Clubcard holders at the checkout both online and in-store.

How to reclaim lost Clubcard points

MOST people lose or forget their Tesco voucher but it’s easy to claim back up to two years or unused vouchers.

The supermarket doesn’t remind you of vouchers that you have leftover, so it’s up to you to check.

Log into the Tesco Clubcard website and check for unspent vouchers.

You’ll see a tab saying “my vouchers” and this will list the ones you still have to spend.

You can print the vouchers to use them in store or note down the number and visit the Boost website to exchange them.

And if you forget your Clubcard it may be worth asking for the discount anyway as staff have been given instructions to make sure customers have a good shopping experience.

The document states: “To help make their experience better, explain that as a “one off” on this occasion only, you will honour this and let them have the discount.”

If you don’t have a Tesco loyalty card then it may be worth signing up for one now – it’s free and you may be able to take advantage of the bonus scheme when it finally launches.

Customers scan their membership cards to earn points when they shop that can be later exchanged for money-off vouchers.

Shoppers are given one point for every £1 spent and each Clubcard point is worth 1p when you shop.

You can also boost your Clubcard points by 25 per cent by use the supermarket’s free Pay+ app.
