Does Tesco do home delivery?

Tesco does home delivery with a minimum spend of £25.

However, as of April 3, delivery slots are sold out until April 23.

Click+Collect slots are also unavailable.

Customers have been urged to give priority to the vulnerable and elderly, with those able to safely come to stores to do so.

CEO Dave Lewis sent an email to customers reminding them to think of shoppers who can’t make it to stores.

He said: “We know that it’s difficult right now to get a delivery slot for online shopping.

“We are at full capacity for the next few weeks and we ask those who are able to safely come to stores to do so, instead of shopping online, so that we can start to free up more slots for the more vulnerable.”

When are Tesco delivery slots released?

New slots are added to the Tesco website at midnight.

Tesco has revealed its added 120,000 click and collect delivery slots and recruited an additional 7,500 staff to help deliver food.

There are plans to add another 100,000 slots in the coming weeks and Tesco has recruited an extra 2,500 drivers to keep up with demands.

This news will be well received by those who have to self-isolate or have difficulty getting to stores as delivery slots have been scarce in the last few weeks.

Tesco is still advertising for more temporary staff members to help improve the shopping experience for customers during lockdown.

Is Tesco still open?

Yes, Tesco stores are still open at the moment, but not in the way the public have become accustomed too.

The supermarket has changed its hours of operation, with stores opening from 6am and closing at 10pm.

Tesco has temporarily stopped its 24-hour opening times to allow for re-stocking of items after the huge demand during the day.

It’s best to check with your local store before heading out, as some store opening hours will vary.

To find your nearest – including store opening times – using the supermarket’s store locator tool.

NHS staff and the elderly have been given priority in allocated time-slots at the beginning of the day.

The store urges the general public to avoid shopping during these hours.

What are the rules at Tesco during the coronavirus lockdown?

To maintain a safe environment for staff and customers alike, there have been rules put in place by Tesco and other supermarkets as coronavirus wreaks havoc throughout the country.

Here’s what you can expect to encounter on your next trip to a Tesco store:

  • A three-item limit per person
  • Stand two-metres apart  – following the floor markers
  • Shop alone if possible and avoid being in a group
  • Follow a set route around store while keeping safe distance
  • Pay by card if possible
  • Cleaning stations will be available to clean trolley or basket

Not following these rules can lead to punishment, as one shopper found out in Stalybridge, Greater Manchester.

Steven Mackie, 53, was arrested after getting too close to other shoppers outside Tesco.

In what was the first offence of its kind, Mackie was fined £635 at Stockport Magistrate Court, after admitting that he failed to maintain public health.

What have Tesco said about their response to coronavirus?

Tesco CEO Dave Lewis issued the following statement on March 31.

“After the first week of national lockdown, it feels like we are beginning to settle into a new rhythm.

“At Tesco, we’ve continued to adjust the way we run our business as we respond to the latest guidance from Government.”

Lewis then added that certain measures were being taken to ensure food is available for all customers, mentioning that:

  • Panic buying is coming to an end with food stocks returning to almost normal levels, but for groceries this will take a little longer.
  • Multi-buy promotions have been scrapped on most items, but remain on Easter eggs.
  • Tesco have deliberately not restricted new sign-ups for deliveries, but urge most customers to shop in store where possible.
  • 35 thousand new staff joined Tesco in the ten days between March 21 and March 31, with over a million visitors to the company careers website.

Lewis added: “As the Prime Minister has said, it looks like we are nearer to the beginning of all this than the end.

“We are still learning, and still adjusting, so that we can provide you with the food and essentials you need.

“I’d like to say a big thank you for your support and your understanding as we work through these changes.

“Everyone at Tesco is committed to providing you with the safest shopping experience possible, but we will need your help to do this.”
