SNAKE WISE What are the most dangerous snake breeds, is it illegal to own them as pets and which venomous serpents are living in the UK?

Hampton Inn Walnut Grove General Manager Jason Arndt explained in a statement to Fox13: “The safety and security of our guests is at our upmost priority at all times at the Hampton Inn Memphis-Walnut Grove/Baptist Hospital East.

“Upon learning of the incident, the hotel immediately removed the snake and alerted pest control who surveyed the room further.”

It was later revealed to be a green garden snake which somehow got into the room.

Despite the traumatic incident, Melinda said it wouldn’t put her off from staying again, having been a frequent guest of the hotel.

She explained: “They did compensate my room and took care of me. They were very nice to me.”

Are garden snakes poisonous?

Garden snakes, also known as garter snacks, are some of the most common snakes in North America.

According to LiveScience, however, they are relatively harmless.

They explain: “They are relatively harmless, although some species do possess a mild neurotoxic venom.”

However, the venom is not dangerous to humans.

If bitten, it can cause minor swelling or itching although no anti-venom is required.

The wound should be cleaned thoroughly with antiseptic.

Anyone scared of snakes should avoid an island near Brazil, dubbed Snake Island, which is home to 4,000 vipers with venom that can melt your skin.

Thankfully, the UK is home to only one venomous snake, the adder, which isn’t deadly.
