Terrence is survived by his lawyer husband Tom Kirdahy, 57, and his brother Peter.
The playwright and his other half had a civil union in Vermont in 2003.
They later followed this up with a romantic marriage ceremony in Washington, D.C. in 2010.
Terrence was open about his sexuality and often focused on homophobia, love and AIDS within his work.
