Terence Crawford has branded Amir Khan ‘pampered’ and questioned the former world champion’s hunger ahead of their title showdown.

Khan challenges Crawford for his WBO welterweight title on Saturday night in New York, with the American tipped as the heavy favourite.

Crawford is a three-weight world champion and believes Khan was given every step up possible in his boxing career.

‘Amir Khan is a great fighter, I have a lot of respect for him,’ Crawford told the Evening Standard.

‘He got a bigger following turning pro off the Olympics than I had. He got more opportunities than I had.

‘I cherish it more because I didn’t have it. He was pampered, he had it when he turned pro.

‘There wasn’t anything to keep him with that hunger and drive you need compared to me, I had to do it from the ground up.

‘I had to fight those type of fights which were high risk, low reward and at the start, I never could get the fights I really wanted.’

Khan has vowed to shock the world against the pound-for-pound great and believes Crawford may think he is a soft touch.

‘Terence, I’ve been watching all the videos of his fights,’ he said.

‘I see how he breaks down fighters, how he sees openings and stuff, and I can’t make those openings.

‘Maybe my last performance got me this fight. To me, that wasn’t the best performance. That wasn’t the best Amir Khan.

‘I’m now back with my old trainer, Virgil Hunter, where I’m happy and he trained me the best.

‘And he knows me better than any trainer out there. We know we’ve done everything we have to do for this fight, and I’m going to be more than ready.’
