BRITS’ teeth are worse now than 350 years ago, scientists reckon.

Modern gnashers were compared to those from 224 skulls, mostly dating back to the 17th Century.

Experts found our predecessors had fewer decayed or missing teeth — an average of nine compared with 13 for Brits today.

History has many accounts of dental problems.

Queen Elizabeth I, played by Anita Dobson in a 2015 BBC series, is said to have had such bad teeth she could hardly speak,

But unlike royals, commoners could not afford sugar and were less likely to get tooth rot, re­searchers at London’s Queen Mary Hospital explained.

Dentist and researcher Joseph Smith told The Sunday Times: “The sampled population experienced less decay than the modern-day sample.”
