TEEN Mom OG’s Amber Portwood suffered from “suicidal thoughts” at the peak of her nasty custody battle with ex-boyfriend Andrew Glennon.
The 29-year-old MTV star has fought for custody of their son James since she was arrested and charged with domestic violence in July 2019.
During a heated fight with her baby daddy, Amber allegedly attacked him with a machete.
After the arrest, Andrew, 35, was given primary custody of their one-year-old baby.
In October 2019, the court accepted a plea deal and she was given no jail time.
In this week’s episode of the MTV series, Amber learned her ex filed a motion in their custody case to take James from Indiana to California.
She felt “sick” upon hearing the news: “It’s taking a huge toll on my mental health. I’m sick to my stomach because of this stuff.
“When I found out he was trying to take James away to California. It just killed me. It feels like a train hit you.
“When I went to my psychiatrist, we do a weigh-in every week and I’ve lost 9 pounds in a week.”
Amber was in tears when she revealed she turned to her first baby daddy Gary Shirley, 33, when her mental health issues escalated further.
She said the night she found out about James potentially going to the west coast: “I called Gary.
“Because the last time I tried to do something I called him and he saved me. I will always be grateful for that.”
The reality star remained determined she will NOT lose her son and when asked about James being taken to California and said: “I’m not going to let that happen. I just have to keep fighting.”
Gary – who shares 11-year-old daughter Leah with Amber – recalled the incident to his wife Kristine: “When she called it was reaching out for help. She came out and mentioned she had suicidal thoughts.
“I told her look no matter what Leah needs you. Imagine what she would go through if something happened, if you did something to yourself.
“What is Leah going to do when she’s older? It’s going to mess her up forever. Leah’s health is important.
“I care about Amber. I would hate for something to happen to Amber that could’ve been prevented,” he said about his baby mama.
Amber and Andrew have continued to work on their issues and The Sun exclusively learned that the former couple has been trying to resolve their battle outside of court.
Andrew filed an emergency motion to postpone their December 18, 2019 hearing after Amber accused him of withholding their 1-year-old son, James.
The Malibu, California native claimed in court documents that there is “no urgency” regarding custody because Amber is “exercising regular parenting time.”
In December 2019, a source exclusively told The Sun Online that co-parenting between the couple is “going smoothly right now.”
