Teen Mom star Maci Bookout fends off critics after her son, 11, is seen trying to lose weight for amateur wrestling match
Teen Mom star Maci Bookout defended her parenting on Twitter Tuesday after her son Bentley, 11, looked to cut weight for a wrestling meet.
The Teen Mom star, 28, and ex Ryan Edwards, 32, share Bentley, while she has two children from husband Taylor McKinney, 31: daughter Jayde, four, and son Maverick, three.
On the latest edition of the MTV series, the mother-of-three got Bentley a private coach as she said the sport has been ‘a great outlet for him,’ keeping him to a ‘strict diet’ so he can ‘achieve his goal’ of success on the mat.
Not so fast: Teen Mom star Maci Bookout, 28, defended her parenting on Twitter Tuesday after her son Bentley, 11, looked to cut weight for a wrestling meet
The Chattanooga, Tennessee native objected to Bentley – who’s aiming to eat 1,000 calories daily – eating only grilled chicken for dinner, arguing that she’s provided him with a healthy menu so he doesn’t have to skimp on food.
‘He weighs like 74-75 pounds so he’s on a very strict, good, healthy calorie diet,’ the Bulletproof author said. ‘Lots of water and workouts to actually cut out weight.’
After multiple social media users told Bookout she was installing poor nutritional values in her son, she clapped back saying that she’s had experience with amateur wrestling, and would not let Bentley cut weight – a reference to the drastic measures wrestlers will take to shed pounds in the days before a meet.
‘In reference to tonight’s episode-I have never and will never convince Bentley to “cut” weight. After wrestling his first 2 tournaments in the 75lb class weighing in at 72-he came to me & said he wanted to wrestle at 70. I told him that’s fine, but you WILL NOT “cut” weight,’ Bookout said.

She continued: ‘I will lay out a healthy scheduled diet for u, u can eat salads, grilled chicken, veggies, good carbs-instead of pizza, Doritos & candy bars. Through the season, he decided he didn’t like it – I told him that’s okay! U can go back to usual and wrestle at 75 which is what he did.’
After a fan defended her, Bookout shared her ties to amateur wrestling.
‘I appreciate your input,’ Bookout said. ‘My brother was a collegiate wrestler so I grew up around the sport and have a bit of knowledge in the sport and healthy weight maintenance.’
Bookout can be seen on Teen Mom OG, which airs Tuesdays at 8/7c on MTV.
