Teen Mom star Amber Portwood, 29, is arrested for domestic battery after she ‘assaulted her boyfriend at 3am as he held onto their one-year-old son during a heated argument’

Teen Mom star Amber Portwood has been arrested.

The 29-year-old was taken in by police at 6am on Friday in Indianapolis for domestic battery, according to TMZ

The reality TV star allegedly assaulted her boyfriend Andrew Glennon at 3am as he held onto their son James, aged one. They were reportedly in the middle of a ‘heated argument.’ Child Protective Services were called.

Portwood has a history of assaulting her ex-boyfriend Gary Shirley and the drama was even captured for her reality TV show. Together they have 10-year-old daughter Leah whom Gary has had full custody of since 2011.

Portwood is reportedly still in police custody.

Her relationship with Andrew seemed to be going strong as on a recent episode of Teen Mom she said they were talking marriage. They also had a pregnancy scare.  

The two started dating in 2017 when they met on the TV show Marriage Boot Camp.

Her history of domestic abuse is significant. 

In 2010 she was accused of abusing Shirley which resulted in her being investigated by police which found her in possession of marijuana and crack cocaine. She was charged with three counts of domestic violence, two of them felonies.

Child Protective Services also stepped in and monitored her for six months as she took care of Leah.

ARREST RECORD 

November 2010

Amber is charged with three counts of domestic violence toward Gary. Two of the three charges are domestic battery felonies.

December 2010

She is arrested for her domestic violence charges and held at Madison County Jail in Anderson, Indiana for 24 hours.

December 2011

The star is arrested for violation of her probation, failing to complete her GED, failing to take anger management courses, and failing to set up a college fund for Leah.

July 2019

Portwood is arrested for allegedly hitting her boyfriend Andrew Glennon as he holds their baby

In December 2011 she was arrested for the Class D felony of possession of a controlled substance.

She was later charged with violating her probation on her earlier domestic-violence charges.

In 2012 she failed to take her drug tests and was given a five year sentence.

She was given the choice of going to rehab or prison. She chose prison and served 17 months. 

In late 2013, Portwood made an appearance on Dr Phil where she revealed that she has been released from jail early due to good behavior. 

She added that she had gotten her GED. 

Portwood also said she was high on prescription and illegal medication for most episodes of Teen Mom and that she was sober. She stated that she was never going to use drugs again.    

In 2015 Amber talked to People magazine about how prison helped her.

‘The only thing I could see happening to me if I [hadn’t gone] to prison is I would have died,’ admitted the felon.

‘I would have overdosed. When you’re an addict you know what your bottom is.’

She also said she had been working hard to get her life back together so she could be a good parent to her daughter Leah.

‘The whole time I was in there I worked my a** off,’ she said.

‘There were hundreds of hours of drug addiction classes. I did extra classes, parenting and anger management and even started teaching. I put myself in there for a reason so I didn’t want to make it a waste.’

The star revealed on a 2017 episode of Teen Mom OG that she has been diagnosed with bipolar disorder and borderline personality disorder.  

The 5ft4in star has been famous for a decade. She was first seen in the TV series 16 And Pregnant which debuted in 2009.
