Tearful Tom Jones worries The Voice viewers as he 'doesn't seem like himself'

Tom Jones worried The Voice viewers this evening as he looked close to tears after one of his act’s performances.

Other fans pointed out that the 78-year-old coach “didn’t seem like himself” during tonight’s semi-final and the first live show of the series.

Liverpool-born Deana Walmsley, 23, performed a song which sparked a very emotional reaction with Tom.

Afterwards, it seemed like he was struggling not to cry as he told her: “I’m so glad that you picked that song because that’s one of my favourite songs. It’s beautiful.”

He choked up but tried to continue: “You sang it really well.”

Worried viewers flocked to Twitter to comment, with one writing: “What’s wrong with Sir Tom tonight? Doesn’t seem himself thevoiceuk.”

While another remarked: “Awww Tom. Why has that song upset him #TheVoiceUK.”

A third commented: “#TheVoiceUK Tom is proper choked up.”

This came soon after Tom was heckled live on air while he was giving his opinion of Jennifer Hudson’s first act Nicole Dennis, 24.

But as he was speaking, someone from the crowd yelled out and left him stunned.

“Well, you’ve got a strong voice, you’ve got a wonderful voice,” he told her. “You sang really, really well.”

Tom then turned to J-Hud and said: “I liked the song choice.”

Someone then yelled out: “She sings with her heart!”

Jennifer looked shocked by the shout as Tom smiled and said: “Quite right!

“You took the words out of my mouth!”

Singing for Tom this evening was Liverpool-born Deana Walmsley, 23, and Cedric Neal, 43, from Brighton.

Only four can make it through to the live final next week.

*The Voice final airs next Saturday on ITV
