Swift has always maintained she would not have approved the lyric “I made that bitch famous”, reigniting a feud between the music stars which dates back a decade.

‘Telling the truth’

In a statement posted on Instagram, Swift said the tape of the full 25-minute conversation proved “that I was telling the truth the whole time about that call”.

“You know, the one that was illegally recorded, that somebody edited and manipulated to frame me and put me, my family and my fans through hell for four years.”

However West’s wife, Kim Kardashian, hit back on Twitter, accusing the singer of “lying” over giving her consent to the song. Swift had not cautioned her husband over releasing a track with a “misogynistic message,” she said.

Kardashian claimed that the timing of Swift’s post “feels very self-serving” during the coronavirus pandemic, which was causing suffering to “millions of real victims.” In her post, Swift had also urged her fans to donate to charities and focus on helping others during the emergency.

The Kanye-Swift feud first erupted when she beat Beyonce to win Best Female Video at the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards and West jumped on stage, interrupting her acceptance speech.
