Taylor Swift has opened up about how much she hates Twitter, and how honoured she is that young stars reach out to her for help coping with bad press.

The Reputation star, 29, revealed that she has pretty much sworn off Twitter because she finds the amount of stories on there ‘overwhelming’.

She told Billboard she prefers to stick with Tumblr to communicate with her fans: ‘Tumblr is the last place on the internet where I feel like I can still make a joke because it feels small, like a neighbourhood, rather than an entire continent.

‘We can kid around… It’s fun. That’s a real comfort zone for me. Just like anything else, I need breaks from it sometimes. But when I do participate in that space, it’s always in a very inside-joke, friend vibe.

‘Sometimes, when I open Twitter, I get so overwhelmed that I just immediately close it. I haven’t had Twitter on my phone in a while because I don’t like to have too much news.’

She admitted that she likes to keep up with politics, but doesn’t like the celebrity gossip flooding her feed because she has ‘only so much bandwidth’ to cope with all the information that is out there.

And given that she herself hasn’t always had an easy ride within the press and social media, it’s no wonder Taylor want to be selective about the information she lets in.

As well as restricting her own access to Twitter, Taylor admitted that she helps other stars starting out in the industry to cope with all the overnight scrutiny.

She explained: ‘I get so many phone calls from new artists out of the blue – like, “Hey, I’m getting my first wave of bad press, I’m freaking out, can I talk to you?” And the answer is always yes!

‘I’m talking about more than 20 people who have randomly reached out to me. I take it as a compliment because it means that they see what has happened over the course of my career, over and over again.’
