Taylor Swift starts five-day countdown to Lover album and pokes fun at fans with Easter egg post

Her seventh studio album, Lover, will be released this coming Friday, August 23.

And while Swifties have bee counting down the days and even hours until the album’s release, Taylor Swift has now joined in.

And in true style, the 29-year-old didn’t just start a five day countdown to Lover, but turned it into her signature cryptic Easter egg style hunts with a recycled post.

What does it mean? Taylor Swift recycled an old photo on Sunday and drew attention to the five holes in the fence as a way to begin her five-day countdown until the Lover album

‘Okay NOW there are five holes in the fence,’ she captioned adding an anxious, surprised cat and kiss emoji.’

The photo saw Taylor stun in a white T-shirt while staring through a one of five holes in a fence.

The Lover singer styled her hair back into a ponytail and accessorised with a pair of pink framed sunglasses.

Now it means something! And while eagle-eyed fans might think the shot looks familiar, they'd be right, after she posted the same photo 24 weeks ago back on February 25. With no news of a new album or single announced six-months ago, she merely captioned the photo with a yellow love heart and joked in an interview at the time that there was no Easter egg behind the photo, it was just 'aesthetically pleasing'

Taylor opted for her signature red lip as she starred down the camera lens.

Taylor’s caption on Sunday: ‘Okay NOW there are five holes in the fence,’ hilariously made light of the initial speculation that there was a meaning behind the five holes in the fence.

‘Due to the butterfly migration in Southern California maybe I’ll just stay outside until I head indoors for @iheartradio awards.’ she captioned.

Since the end of April, Taylor has released four tracks of the upcoming album, ME!, You Need To Calm Down, The Archer and Lover.

Friday saw the September Vogue cover star give fans the 18 song track-list, the most on any of her former albums.

Fans were also delighted to learn that after much speculation, she would be collaborating with the Dixie Chicks. The song will be the 12th on the album and is called, Soon You’ll Get Better.

Taylor’s album Lover is her seventh studio album – and her first album under her new record label Republic Records.

On June 30, Taylor took to her Instagram to reveal ‘bully’ Scooter Braun – who is the manager of Justin Bieber, Ariana Grande and many more – acquired the label she was previously at – Big Machine Records for $300 million.

The deal included the master recordings of all her past six albums; Taylor Swift, Fearless, Speak Now, Red, 1989 and reputation.

She slammed Scooter as well as Big Machine Label Group CEO Scott Borchetta and revealed she was not offered the opportunity to buy her own masters and that the former bullied her for years.

Taylor added a picture of Justin Bieber’s Instagram post – that showed what he captioned at the time- which was ‘Taylor Swift what up’ and a picture of Justin facetiming with Kanye West and Scooter Braun.

She had added in red writing with a circle over Scooter: ‘This is Scooter Braun, bullying me on social media when I was at my lowest point He’s about to own all the music I’ve ever made.’

Taylor wrote a lengthy post on Tumblr regarding the sale.

Taylor Swift’s statement about Scooter Braun

For years I asked, pleaded for a chance to own my work. Instead I was given an opportunity to sign back up to Big Machine Records and ‘earn’ one album back at a time, one for every new one I turned in. I walked away because I knew once I signed that contract, Scott Borchetta would sell the label, thereby selling me and my future. I had to make the excruciating choice to leave behind my past. Music I wrote on my bedroom floor and videos I dreamed up and paid for from the money I earned playing in bars, then clubs, then arenas, then stadiums.

Some fun facts about today’s news: I learned about Scooter Braun’s purchase of my masters as it was announced to the world. All I could think about was the incessant, manipulative bullying I’ve received at his hands for years.

Like when Kim Kardashian orchestrated an illegally recorded snippet of a phone call to be leaked and then Scooter got his two clients together to bully me online about it. (See photo) Or when his client, Kanye West, organized a revenge porn music video which strips my body naked. Now Scooter has stripped me of my life’s work, that I wasn’t given an opportunity to buy. Essentially, my musical legacy is about to lie in the hands of someone who tried to dismantle it.

This is my worst case scenario. This is what happens when you sign a deal at fifteen to someone for whom the term ‘loyalty’ is clearly just a contractual concept. And when that man says ‘Music has value’, he means its value is beholden to men who had no part in creating it.

When I left my masters in Scott’s hands, I made peace with the fact that eventually he would sell them. Never in my worst nightmares did I imagine the buyer would be Scooter. Any time Scott Borchetta has heard the words ‘Scooter Braun’ escape my lips, it was when I was either crying or trying not to. He knew what he was doing; they both did. Controlling a woman who didn’t want to be associated with them. In perpetuity. That means forever.

Thankfully, I am now signed to a label that believes I should own anything I create. Thankfully, I left my past in Scott’s hands and not my future. And hopefully, young artists or kids with musical dreams will read this and learn about how to better protect themselves in a negotiation. You deserve to own the art you make.

I will always be proud of my past work. But for a healthier option, Lover will be out August 23.
