Taylor Swift took to the MTV VMAs with her pink guitar and just a spot of shade on Monday night, as she referenced the moment Kanye West crashed her speech 10 years ago.

Bit awkward.

The Lover hitmaker, who belted out tracks from her new album surrounded by backing singers, drag queens, and a giant rainbow, was a beacon of positivity – except for one tiny moment.

‘You never know what can happen on this show, as I’ve learned,’ she said on the red carpet.

Ain’t that the truth.

Way back in 2009, Kanye, 42, drunkenly stormed the VMAs stage at the star-studded awards ceremony as Taylor, 29, was accepting the best female video for You Belong To Me.

The Gold Digger rapper famously told Taylor: ‘I’ma let you finish but, Beyonce had one of the best videos of all time,’ referring to her iconic Single Ladies visuals which were nominated.

As Taylor stood their speechless, the camera panned to an equally stunned Beyonce who mouthed, ‘Oh, Kanye’, not really knowing what to do.

A bit like the rest of the world.

It was recently claimed the Single Ladies hitmaker cried backstage after the bizarre incident – despite appearing completely calm and collected in the audience.

Recalling the awkward incident, Viacom president Van Toffler told Billboard: ‘I walk behind the stage – and sure enough there is Beyonce and her dad, and she is crying. She was like, “I didn’t know this was going to happen, I feel so bad for her”.

‘And that’s when it started to click in my head, and maybe hers, about potentially having the whole arc play out in that one night.’

According to Toffler, the VMAs then broke protocol for the first time in history by telling Beyonce that she was set to win the most important accolade of the night – video of the year – and suggested that Beyonce should invite Taylor onto the stage.

After 10 years, Kanye, Bey, and Taylor are all still thriving, proving there’s definitely room for all three of them.
