Taylor Swift and Katy Perry FEUD: Cats star explains what REALLY caused bitter pop rivalry

Taylor Swift and Katy Perry went from a cheery friendship to a bitter rivalry over the years, with things really kicking off after a disagreement over backing dancers. Earlier this year, in a total U-turn, the pair put their feud behind them and announced their reconciliation in epic style: in Swift’s music video for You Need To Calm Down.

Fans were shocked to see the former adversaries putting on a big show of hugging — Perry dressed in a giant burger costume and Swift done up like chips — at the end of the video.

In an interview with Vogue, the Lover hitmaker spoke out about how they had wound up making up.

The reconciliation came about a year after Perry first reached out, sending Swift a literal olive branch and a letter to make peace.

The latter shared a snap of the peace offering on social media, showing the start of the note, which read: “I’ve been doing some reflecting on past miscommunication and hurt feelings between us.”

However, by 2014, it appeared to be a different story, with the former embarking on her Red world tour, for which she hired three backing dancers who had previously worked with Perry.

Later that year, reports emerged claiming the same dancers had been invited to join Perry’s Prismatic tour and had ditched Swift’s to do just that.

The release of Bad Blood seemed to reveal details about the feud, with the singer telling Rolling Stone it was about about female popstar who did something “so horrible” that it left them as “straight-up enemies”.

Swift even added: “She basically tried to sabotage an entire arena tour. She tried to hire a bunch of people out from under me.”

Cryptic tweets about Mean Girls’ Regina George followed from Perry, who also said, during a Carpool Karaoke interview, that her then-rival “started it” and that it was “time for her to finish it”.

In 2017, Perry released Swish, Swish, which is thought to have been directed at Swift, featuring lyrics like: “Keep calm, honey, Imma stick around / For more than a minute, get used to it / Funny my name keeps coming’ out your mouth / ‘Cause I stay winning.”(sic)

The same year, however, Perry issued a public apology to Swift during 96-hour live-stream.

Following the whole olive branch move, it seemed things were back on track for the pair, with Perry even sharing a picture of a plate of cookies bearing the words “Peace at last” earlier this year.

She tagged Swift in the post and set the location as: “Let’s Be Friends”.
