Coldplay frontman Chris Martin told fans in Mexico the band’s track Everglow was being sung in tribute to Taylor Hawkins after his death was confirmed overnight.

Hawkins died aged 50 during the band’s tour in Colombia, and was found in his hotel room in Bogota. His cause of death is as yet unknown.

The music industry has been left heartbroken by the news, with tributes rolling in from the likes of Ozzy Osborne, Travis Barker and Miley Cyrus

Coldplay also gave a sweet nod to the late star, dedicating a track in his honour as they performed in Monterrey, Mexico on Friday night.

During a gig at the Estadio BBVA, Martin paid tribute to Hawkins before a performance of their track ‘Everglow’.

The four-piece band are currently on their Music For The Spheres world tour, and have reached their South American leg.

The singer told fans: ‘We heard that a friend of ours in a great, great band called the Foo Fighters has passed away,’ he told the crowd.

‘We weren’t sure whether to talk about it at this concert but we have to because they’re our friends and we care about them.

‘We feel like we should send love to the Foo Fighters because we all knew Taylor, their drummer, who was a beautiful beautiful man, and so we’re gonna play this song for the Foo Fighters.’

Foo Fighters issued a statement on March 25 confirming the devastating news.

‘The Foo Fighters family is devastated by the tragic and untimely loss of Taylor Hawkins,’ it read.

‘His musical spirit and infectious laughter will live on with all of us forever.

‘Our hearts go out to his wife, children and family, and we ask that their privacy be treated with the utmost respect in this unimaginably difficult time,’ they added.

Miley Cyrus also announced her next gig would be dedicated to Hawkins, sharing a tribute to him on her Instagram stories.

Taking to her Instagram story with a touching tribute, Miley shared a black and white picture of a smiling Hawkins.

‘This is how I’ll always remember you…’ she wrote. My show tomorrow is dedicated to Taylor Hawkins.’

On a second story, she added a link to Pretenders’ hit Brass in Pocket, sharing an emotional memory: ‘My favourite memory with Taylor is dancing around his drum kit while he played along to this song. Playing it on repeat imagining us laughing…. Love forever.’

Footage of the band’s final gig at Lollapalooza Argentina, just six days ago, has emerged, with Hawkins incredibly swapping out with former Nirvana drummer Grohl to sing a Queen song.

He performed a rendition of Somebody To Love, with Hawkins telling the crowd: ‘I f**kin’ love Dave Grohl, man.

‘I’d be delivering pizzas if it wasn’t for fuckin’ Dave Grohl. I’d be managing the drum department at a Guitar Center if it wasn’t for Dave Grohl.’

The band played for over two hours in Buenos Aires’ Hipódromo de San Isidro, performing hits such as The Pretender and My Hero as well as No Son Of Mine and Shame Shame.
