Taron Egerton has addressed his Grammy nod, after being nominated for the Rocketman soundtrack.

The star’s name landed in the best compilation soundtrack for visual media category, alongside the likes of The Lion King, Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon A Time In Hollywood and Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse.

And it seems the 30-year-old is still pinching himself over the accolade, as he joked the whole thing was ‘ridiculous’ when chatting at a London event hosted by BAFTA Cymru, on Wednesday evening.

Talking to the host of the evening, Celyn Jones, the Welch actor described the moment he found out he’d be heading off to the Grammys.

And it turns out he was sipping on a Pina Colada while sunning himself next to his girlfriend, Emily Thomas.

‘I’d been on Instagram that day and someone had said, “congrats on the Grammy nomination,”’ he joked: ‘And we were sat there living the life, and Emily was like, “babe, you’ve been nominated for a Grammy,” it just feels like it must be a mistake.’

Still looking pretty shocked at the nod, he went on: ‘With all sincerity, the reason it feels so ridiculous is because I’m only a cog in the machine for that record, it should be going to Giles Martin.’

Giles is the son of The Beatles producer George Martin, and worked on the soundtrack that was recorded at Abbey Road Studios.

‘But I am thrilled,’ Taron insisted: ‘Myself and Giles will be going together, absolutely!’

And we hope he’ll be taking Elton John too, as the star then gushed over the Your Song hitmaker after playing him in the musical.

Admitting that it was ‘crazy’ when he first met the living legend, the Liverpool born star casually dropped into conversation that he’d just got off the phone to the 72-year-old earlier that day, before he continued: ‘Besides from that, I would call him a mentor. He has become a huge part of my life.

‘Our friendship has mutated and evolved into something that feels so familiar, it has been such a crazy, crazy journey.’

And it appears the feelings are mutual, as the icon recently spoke about the close bond he’s developed with Taron, calling him ‘family’.

‘I don’t think I have to say anything to him because he seems to have it figured out for himself,’ he told Entertainment Tonight after being asked if he’d offer his new pal any career advice.

‘He’s much more happy within himself and I think that’s the truth.’
