Tamzin Outhwaite says beau 21 years her junior was first a 'fling' after Tom Ellis split


Tamzin Outhwaite, 49, the former EastEnders actress, has opened up about finding love again with cameraman Tom Child, 29, after splitting from ex-husband and Miranda star Tom Ellis in 2014. The BBC star, who has moved on after her heartbreak, shares daughters Flo, 12, and Marnie, eight, with the Gary Preston actor.

After meeting her new beau in a yoga studio three years ago, Tom has since moved into her north London home with her daughters.

Tamzin revealed their romance soon developed after she was only expecting it to be a “fling”.

She divulged: “Then it went from being a fling to, ‘I don’t want to be away from you.’

“For one of the first times in my life I’m living in the moment and not worrying about what’s going to happen, which is lovely.”

Tamzin went onto discuss the noticeable age gap between herself and her new partner.

“I think the age gap forces us to do that a bit more, because there’s nothing we desperately need from each other,” she shared.

“I’ve been married before and I’ve got my children, who come first, and he knows that.”

The star continued in an interview with the Mirror: “He’s not desperate for children right now, so we’re both having a lovely time.

Tamzin says she and her new beau Tom often work together after he filmed her YouTube series called Dun Breedin’.

The couple have now embarked on working together for a music video which was produced by Julian Corrie for indie rock band Matinee.

Tamzin rose to fame in 1998 after starring in EastEnders as Mel Healy.

She decided to leave the soap in 2002, but returned three years ago until he character was killed off.

Since leaving the BBC soap, Tamzin has spoken out about why she doesn’t regret leaving the show.

The actress confessed that after agreeing to do two more years, it felt like she had outstayed her welcome on the programme.

She said: “Initially, when I was told Mel was going to be killed, I was like, ‘Oh no!’ But then I realised it was actually a good way to finish the character off.

Tamzin has starred in a number of theatre and TV productions, including New Tricks and Red Cap.
