The Tompkins Square Halloween Dog Parade is a joyous annual celebration of dogs and fancy dress.

Happening for its 31st year, the show made a glorious return in New York after it was cancelled last year due to the pandemic.

Taking place on Saturday October 23 at midday, hundreds showed up with their pups to compete in all kinds of attire.

How this tradition came to be goes back to the 1980s, when Tompkins Square Park was known as a drug hot spot. Wanting to bring a new lease of life to the area, the founders of the parade launched the annual doggy meet in 1990.

In years since, the park has been renovated and the dog walk has attracted over 10,000 spectators at a time.

The top prize is ‘Best in Show’, but with so many great outfits it’s hard to pick just one.

These are some of the best outfits and moments from the afternoon.
