Taika Waititi says 'Thor 4' is 'like 10-year-olds told us what should be in a movie and we said yes'

Taika Waititi has revealed that the script for Thor: Love and Thunder has undergone several drafts and that fans can expect a wild ride from the fourth solo outing for Chris Hemsworth’s Norse hero.

The 44-year-old Oscar winner teased his upcoming superhero sequel in an Instagram Live watch-along of Thor: Ragnarok, which featured cameos from Tessa Thompson and Mark Ruffalo.

Waititi said the premise of Love and Thunder is “like 10-year-olds told us what should be in a movie and we said yes to every single thing”.

He revealed that five drafts of the script have been completed and Thompson — who will reprise her role as new Asgardian ruler Valkyrie — said she has been fortunate enough to read it.

Waititi refused to be drawn on Christian Bale’s role in Thor 4 and would not answer questions about whether Tom Hiddleston’s Loki will appear.

He did, however, offer some more information on his own character — rock-based hero Korg — and whether he might receive a romantic interest in the movie.

Waititi said Korg was once “deeply in love and lost that love along the line”.

“He doesn’t feel brave enough to find love again,” the writer-director-actor said.

Elsewhere in the broadcast, Waititi showed glimpses of a fake script for Thor 4, which featured the return from the dead of Tony Stark.

Thor: Love and Thunder was one of the many films from Phase Four of the Marvel Cinematic Universe to be shuffled around in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic.

The film had been set to arrive in November 2021, but is now dated for 28 February, 2022.

As well as the return of Hemsworth as Thor, Waititi has already announced that Love and Thunder will see Natalie Portman reprise the role as Jane Foster, who assumes the mantle of Mighty Thor.

Other than that, details are largely being kept under wraps until the movie is able to get in front of cameras.

It’s one of many projects on Waititi’s very busy slate, which includes post-production on true-life sports tale Next Goal Wins and a pair of Netflix animated series based on Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

He is naturally in high demand after winning the Best Adapted Screenplay Oscar this year for Nazi satire Jojo Rabbit.
