This is the moment a swimmer picks up a huge shark and prises open its mouth.

Shocked onlookers watched as the man suddenly wrestles with something in the water.

He then grabs the shark with his bare hands, getting a hold of its tail and body as it flaps about.

Other swimmers at the beach in Delaware, US, were heard gasping as he opens the shark’s mouth with his right hand, perilously close to its razor sharp teeth.

One woman shouts: ‘Wow, that’s a big a** shark.’

Some reports have claimed the man was opening the shark’s mouth to pose for a picture.

But Fox5, who obtained the video, said he was saving the animal from a fish hook.

It’s not known what type of shark it was, but onlookers said the man released it back into the water soon after the video ends.

Sharks are often found off the coast of Delaware and the Atlantic Ocean but it is illegal to remove protected species from the water.

Any sharks that are caught by anglers must be returned to the water as soon as possible.
