Susanna Reid has marked Mother’s Day from the safety of self-isolation, as the coronavirus continues to sweep the country and the world.

The Good Morning Britain presenter took to social media to confirm she had FaceTimed her mother this morning, as families are encouraged to celebrate the day from afar as to not risk the spread of Covid-19.

Sounds sensible.

‘Just spoke to my amazing Mum via FaceTime. Happy Mothering Sunday everyone – it’s time to come together by being apart!’ she said on Twitter.

‘Sending love to those who can’t be with their mums today and to those for whom today has always been hard.’

Susanna’s mum Sue is 79, which is in the high-risk age bracket should she come down with the virus.

The TV presenter is herself a mum to three kids: Sam, 18, Finn, 16 and Jack, 15.

‘Happy Mother’s Day to all the special, amazing mums out there,’ Susanna also added in a self-filmed video message for Good Morning Britain last week.

‘And a virtual hug and kiss to my mum.’

Susanna, 49, is in self-isolation after one of her children developed a persistent cough, although she has shown no signs of the virus herself.

On Tuesday 17 March, Susanna addressed Deputy Chief Medical Officer for England, Professor Jonathan Van-Tim, on GMB via video link.

‘One of my sons has a cough, he doesn’t have a fever…and nobody else in the house has any other symptoms, but we are self-isolating,’ she explained.

‘I would like him to be tested. I would like all of us to be tested.

‘I think it would be useful for the data gathering, I also think it will be extremely effective for us to know if we are dealing with coronavirus in our household, or if we are simply dealing with a seasonal cough.’

As well as a cough, symptoms of the virus include a temperature and a shortness of breath.

Keep washing those hands!
