Susanna Reid: ‘He wasn’t interested’ GMB presenter discusses meeting ‘man of her dreams’

Susanna Reid has revealed to fans the moment she met the “man of my dreams” as she admitted he “wasn’t interested”. The Good Morning Britain presenter spoke candidly about how she was “overcome with nerves” at the time, before even speaking to him. The 48-year-old rushed to the toilets on seeing the male, which happened while she was studying at university. Addressing all in her column for the Daily Mail, she opened up about how he looked like Aidan Turner but things never went any further.

Susanna’s candid story came in light of the news that London theatre The Old Vic was scrapping single-sex toilets in favour of more inclusive alternatives.

The new loos have been installed to allow “people to make their own decision about which loo is suitable for them,” a spokesperson said earlier this month.

Executive director Kate Varah said at the time: “We set out to make changes to The Old Vic that were reflective of the needs of today’s audiences and our local community.”

The ITV journalist has since voiced her opinion on the move saying: “I believe everyone should feel comfortable using the facilities.

“Some may want gender-neutral spaces, which I support. But not at the cost of all single-sex loos.”

The topic led Susanna to discuss the moment she needed “refuge” during her younger years, before she met former partner Dominic Cotton.

The star wrote: “The Ladies isn’t just a convenience, it’s the place I’ve always gone to give myself a pep talk.

“One night early in my university years, the man of my dreams arrived at the student bar.”

Susanna studied politics, philosophy and law at the University of Bristol between 1989 and 1992, where she was editor of Epigram, the student newspaper.

Susanna continued: “I was overcome with nerves. What to say to this god (who looked remarkably like Aidan Turner in Poldark, now I come to think about it)?

“I didn’t stay to make conversation. I retreated to the Ladies with my girlfriends for a serious discussion.”

She added: “After 20 minutes I emerged, confident and brimming with enthusiasm.

“Only the toilet paper stuck to my shoe destroyed the image of a calm, collected me. Funnily enough, he wasn’t interested.”

Susanna went on to have three sons with former sports correspondent Dominic, but the pair split in 2014 after 16 years together.

She went on to date Crystal Palace chairman Steve but they went their separate ways in April. She is now thought to be single.

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays at 6am on ITV.
