Susan Sarandon has spoken out about why she prefers to date a younger man, revealing that she likes their sense of adventure and curiosity.

The actress, 74, split with Jonathan Bricklin, who was 31 years younger than her, in 2015 after spending five years together.

She revealed to Stellar magazine: ‘I find it difficult now to find older guys who would be appropriate – which people keep pointing out to me if I start going out with someone younger.’

The Thelma and Louise star hopes to find someone with the same qualities as Sam, who is ‘curious’ and open to ‘adventure’.

She explained: ‘I think I can only be with people who are really looking, interested and asking questions, which is much easier to find when you’re younger because nobody knows anything, and everything is new.

‘But when you get to a certain point, some people are trying to be safe and protect themselves.

‘That’s why I’m drawn to people who are artists of some kind – not necessarily actors, but anybody who has a passion to create something.’

Susan met Jonathan several months after she ended her 23-year relationship withTim Robbins, 62, in 2009.

She and Tim share two sons, Jack, 31, and Miles, 28, and the two-time Oscar winner is also mother to daughter Eva Amurri, 35, with Italian film director Franco Amurri, 62.

Susan was also previously married to actor Chris Sarandon, 78, for 12 years before they ended their marriage in 1979.

The acting legend has always been open about the fact age doesn’t matter to her in a relationship, telling Hello in 2014: ‘It’s the soul of a person that interests me.

‘When you are in love, the question of age, sex, colour no longer hold any importance.’
