Despite carving out a hugely successful singing career after Britain’s Got Talent, Susan Boyle has admitted she was worried her career was over when she didn’t win the show.
Susan, 58, stunned viewers and judges with her faultless vocals, but just missed out on winning to dance troupe Diversity, who emerged as champions in 2009.
Losing out on winning the show left Susan worried that her dream of being a singer could be over before it properly began, as she admitted: ‘That level would daunt anybody. It happened so fast and, at the end of the show, their attention went to Diversity.
‘[Diversity are] a great bunch of lads. They won fair and square. But I felt like, “What’s going to happen to me now?”’
Susan was quickly signed up for a recording deal by Simon Cowell, and has since recorded eight studio albums, with her ninth in the works.
Her appearance on the show surprised viewers in the audience and at home, as the initially scornful crowd who judged her on her appearance were blown away and won over by her stunning vocal performance of I Dreamed A Dream from Les Miserables.
She told the Express: ‘I needn’t have worried because Simon’s great. He took me on and I made my first album with him.’
Despite being known for rocking a power ballad, Susan admitted her ninth album is going to showcase a different, more upbeat sounds.
She revealed: ‘It’s a wee bit different to the last one. There are a few new songs put in. As well as the ones they know, there’s a few they don’t know and don’t expect me to do – a couple of fast numbers.
‘I want people to get up off their seat and dance this time.’
