Susan Boyle, 58, reveals what REALLY led to now legendary Britain's Got Talent audition


Britain’s Got Talent star Susan Boyle, 58, shocked audiences with her stunning rendition of Les Misérables ballad I Dreamed A Dream a decade ago. The singer certainly caught the attention of music mogul Simon Cowell, 60, who has continued to mentor her career.

Susan did not go on to win the competition but did successfully make it to the finals of the ITV talent show in 2009.

She has since revealed the real reason why she decided to audition for Britain’s Got Talent over 10 years ago.

Speaking about the moment the Scottish-born native took the stage, she admitted most of the audience assumed her audition would be for comedic value.

“Some people thought I looked like a doily in that dress,” Susan laughed, while speaking to Northern Life magazine.

The star admitted she had previously auditioned for The X Factor before she was recommended to go for Britain’s Got Talent.

Susan explained: “I’d been to 12 auditions for various things before, I’d actually already auditioned for X Factor previously and it was suggested that I should audition for Britain’s Got Talent.”

She added: “At the time my mother had just died. I would have loved her to have seen it, but I believe she was there spiritually to see what was going on. She was right beside me. I decided to just ‘tough it out.’”

The talent show contestant has since gone on to achieve worldwide success and recently released her latest album Ten – after a four-year hiatus.

Elsewhere, Susan was recently photographed in Manchester after she cancelled several performances on her upcoming UK tour.

An announcement on her website dated December 17, 2019, revealed the cancellation was due to “circumstances beyond control”.

The statement on her website read: “Due to circumstances beyond her control, Susan’s management were left with no choice but to cancel and reschedule a selection of the venues.”

The tour dates feature performances in Edinburgh, Dundee, Glasgow, Nottingham, Woking, Bristol, Cardiff and Manchester.

Jai McDowall, 33, who won the show Britain’s Got Talent in 2011, is also expected to join Susan on her nationwide tour.

Despite the show cancellations, the singer appeared in high spirits as she donned a black fluffy coat, which she teamed with a pair of blue denim jeans and silver loafers.

She previously opened up about the tour which is due to kick off in March, saying: “I’m looking forward to my tour, but getting into the studio and rehearsing and coming up with exciting new material and suggestions, I can’t wait to get back on that stage.

“I’m also looking forward to Jai joining as well. This will be an all-new show, like nothing you’ve seen me do before.”

Meanwhile, Susan recently opened up about her relationship with X Factor and Britain’s Got Talent judge Simon, admitting he was her “biggest inspiration”.

Speaking to The Daily Mirror, she explained: “Simon Cowell is the biggest inspiration in my career.”

“I strive to make him proud. He inspired me to continue and aim for perfect. And I have a great team. It’s a very thoughtful pairing. They aren’t afraid to say no to me, especially when I’m carrying on.”

She added: “I’ll do anything for a laugh but they tell me sometimes the pranks have to stop and I have to be a bit more serious about myself now.”
