Yoon Hak has tested positive for coronavirus, with the Supernova’s representatives confirming the news today.

The star – real name Jung Yoon-Hak – is now the first Korean celebrity to publicly test positive for Covid-19 and is receiving treatment in hospital.

In a statement, his reps revealed Yoon had not shown any symptoms after returning from Japan, however recently he began to observe ‘mild’ symptoms of the deadly virus.

A representative confirmed, according to Soompi: ‘After returning to Korea on March 24 following his individual promotions in Japan, Yoon Hak was diagnosed with COVID-19 on April 1.’

They continued: ‘Currently, Yoon Hak is hospitalized and receiving treatment. His symptoms are mild.

‘He will be focusing on treatment and recovery. His manager, stylists, and other staff members have all tested negative.’

The 35-year-old had been working in Japan as a producer on talent show G-EGG, which aims to discover a new boy band.

It was reported after symptoms began to gradually appear, Yoon got tested on 31 March at the Seocho District Public Health Center.

He was then diagnosed the next day, and sent to Seoul Medical Center, where he remains, being treated for the virus in an isolated room.

The star made his debut as a member of Supernova in 2007 and has mainly been promoting actively in Japan.

As well as Supernova, he has starred in the dramas Fates and Furies as well as My Unfortunate Boyfriend.

He released his solo Japanese debut after completing two years of mandatory military service on 24 July 2013.

More than 50,000 people have lost their lives to coronavirus across the world.

The total number of diagnoses is close to 1 million and around half of the global population is under some form of lockdown. Italy has borne the brunt of fatalities with 13,915 people losing their lives since the pandemic began in December.

South Korea has seen 10,062 cases and 174 deaths from Covid-19.
