The second May bank holiday is upon us, and it looks like the sun will be shining, making up for a largely rain-sodden month.
The bank holiday will be on Monday, May 31 – it is known as the spring bank holiday, and also falls around the time of Whitsun.
Many may be planning to call some friends over for a BBQ, but can you still pop to the shops and stock up on burger buns and bottles of beer?
Here’s when Tesco, Sainsbury’s and Argos will be open over the bank holiday weekend.
Tesco bank holiday opening hours 2021
Whether you’re spending the weekend chilling on the sofa, or entertaining friends, you might need to make a pitstop to your local supermarket.
Luckily, Tesco will be open on bank holiday Monday.
Many stores will be open at their normal scheduled times, which can vary from 6am to 11pm or midnight.
However, opening hours do vary from store to store so customers are advised to visit the Tesco Store locator online to check their local store.
Sainsburys bank holiday opening hours
Large Sainsbury’s stores will also be open for your bank holiday needs.
Hours are expected to be:
- Saturday, May 29: 7am – 10pm
- Sunday, May 30: 10am – 4pm
- Monday, May 31: 8am – 5.30pm
Smaller Sainsbury’s Locals will be open different hours and other store opening times may vary so check your nearest stores online.
Morrisons opening times
Morrisons should be open as usual on Saturday, from 7am to 9pm.
On Sunday, shorter hours will apply, with the stores open from 10am until 4pm.
There are slightly altered opening hours on the bank holiday Monday, however: while stores will open at 7am, most will close an hour earlier than usual at 8pm.

Waitrose opening times
Opening hours will change at some Waitrose branches on bank holiday Monday, so be sure to make a note before heading out for barbecue supplies.
Shops will be open from 8am till 8pm on Monday, with standard hours applying at the weekend.
On Saturday, stores are usually open from 7am until 9pm, and on Sunday from 10am to 4pm.

M&S opening times
Most M&S branches won’t see changes to their opening times, but be sure to check your local store’s hours here.
On Saturday May 29, M&S shops will be open from 8am until 6pm as usual.
Sunday May 30 has slightly shorter hours, at 10am till 4pm.
Bank holiday Monday sees normal weekday hours return – also open from 8am till 6pm.
