Supercell Announces $250K Brawl Stars World Championship for South Korea

Mobile action game Brawl Stars will hold its first World Championship from Nov. 15-17 in Busan, South Korea, publisher Supercell announced today.

The $250K finals will take place at the BEXCO Auditorium as part of gaming festival G-Star, with eight international teams qualifying for the event via online competitions. The quarterfinals will take place on Nov. 15 with the semifinals and finals on Nov. 16. Meanwhile, the final day will focus on fan-centric programming featuring top Brawl Stars players. Supercell will stream the Brawl Stars World Championship via both Twitch and YouTube.

“The Brawl Stars community in Korea has been so passionate about the game since it first debuted,” said Supercell community manager Ryan Lighton, in a release. “Even though the game launched globally only nine months ago, we want to match our players’ enthusiasm and bring them the event they’ve been asking for in Korea, the birthplace of esports.”

Brawl Stars is the third Supercell mobile game to feature a significant esports push from the Finnish developer. Card-driven strategy game Clash Royale has the $1M annual Clash Royale League, which is currently in its second season, while strategy game Clash of Clans will hold a $1M World Championship event at ESL One Hamburg in Germany next month.
