Sunrise's David 'Kochie' Koch brands SAS Australia's Dan Ewing a 'd**k' live on air

Sunrise host David ‘Kochie’ Koch shocks colleagues by calling an SAS Australia star a ‘d**k’ live on air

Sunrise host David ‘Kochie’ Koch had a rather bizarre outburst on Tuesday when he called an SAS Australia recruit ‘a bit of a d**k’ live on air.

The 65-year-old directed the insult at actor Dan Ewing, who has a reputation for bratty behaviour on Seven’s military-style reality show.

While interviewing the show’s latest evictee, Olympian Jana Pittman, Kochie asked her: ‘Dan Ewing comes across as a bit of a d**k. Is he really like that?’

He added: ‘He keeps talking about himself in third person, which is a bit weird.’

‘Kochie!’ exclaimed his co-host Natalie Barr, scolding him for his bad language.

Jana, who has just announced she’s pregnant with twins, handled the situation well and had nothing but praise for the former Home and Away star.

‘I love Dan, he’s one of my favourites,’ she said.

‘He’s an actor. A lot of athletes do that as well, it’s a way of projecting what you’re feeling as well,’ she said, in reference to Dan talking to himself in third person.

She added that she admires Dan, 36, for speaking about his mental health and how he uses meditation and yoga to better himself.

‘We need to celebrate that as well. He was one of my biggest supporters on the course. He’s a great dad and a true gentleman,’ she finished.

Last month, Dan rubbished claims he talks about himself in third person, after footage from SAS Australia went viral.

He told the Imperfectly Perfect podcast: ‘I worry about any Aussie who hasn’t figured out how TV works by now and who actually believes I talk about myself in the third person.

‘I mean, I haven’t done it before. Why the heck would I magically start now?’

Dan also said he believes viewers aren’t getting an honest depiction of what really happened on set of Seven’s military-style show.

‘It has more stitch-ups than a patchwork blanket,’ he said of the editing.

Fans had mocked the actor after he bizarrely referred to himself in the third person during his introductory video package.

‘Stepping into SAS selection is quite interesting undertaking. There’s no acting. This is Dan Ewing,’ he said.

‘So, what does Dan Ewing do when he is sleep deprived? What will Dan do when he hasn’t eaten, when he is freezing cold, getting screamed at, called all sorts of things?

‘What does Dan Ewing do when his back is against the wall?’

Viewers flocked to Twitter to ridicule his monologue, including one who wrote: ‘Why is Dan Ewing referring to himself in the third person?’
