IF there’s anything we love more than seeing our kids in fancy dress, it’s having them dress up as their favourite storybook characters.
To celebrate this year’s World Book Day, we asked The Sun Online readers to send in photos of their children all dressed up to mark the occasion – and the adorable snaps did not disappoint.
Celebrated for more than 20 years, World Book Day has children – and even parents! – racking their brains to come up with the most creative costumes possible.
Leading the way for the most spot-on Dorothy we’ve ever seen, Evie, 9, headed into school this morning dressed as the Wizard of Oz’s heroine.
Complete with a gingham dress and toy Toto, dressing as Dorothy was a no-brainer for the Year Five student as the Wizard of Oz is one of her favourite books.
Meanwhile little brother Teddy looked adorable as Cuddly Dudley and was desperate to dress as the penguin because his mother read all four stories to her children growing up.
Sweet as chocolate
Taking inspiration from the classic Roald Dahl book, six-year-old Tyler is dressed to impress in his spot-on Willy Wonka costume.
Rocking a snazzy shirt and gold bow tie, Tyler is the spitting image of Gene Wilder in the original 1971 movie – a film he has watched hundreds of times.
That’s the ticket
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory-inspired costumes are proving a popular choice this year, with five-year-old Joel choosing to dress as an Oompa Loompa.
But while today is all about children’s favourite books, Joel’s mum says he picked this character because he loves chocolate so much.
Golden Oldie
Four-year-old Noah has also taken inspiration from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory with his super-sweet costume this World Book Day.
Rocking a smart walking cane and traditional top hat, this looks like the work of pure imagination…
On the run?
Seven-year-old Eimear went all out with Gangster Granny costume as she headed into school with a walking stick.
Making a silver wig and eye mask look incredibly cool, the primary school student got every detail of the lovable villain’s outfit totally spot on.
Here comes trouble
Pulling out all the stops with his Dennis the Menace costume, seven-year-old Shea even donned a suitably wacky wig for World Book Day.
Pairing the cartoon’s signature striped t-shirt with a pair of bright red socks, Shea even wore selection of Dennis the Menace badges which we’re incredibly jealous of.
Broom-ing marvellous
Finding a reason to take some of her favourite toys into school, Caoimhe, 7, looked super sweet dressed as the witch from Room on the Broom.
And we’re incredibly impressed with her tin-foil wand and makeshift broomstick carrying a selection of soft toys.
Too cute for twits
As ever, Roald Dahl characters have proved incredibly popular this World Book Day.
Dressing us as everybody’s favourite evil pair, these twins have got The Twits to perfection with their messy hair and monkey companion.
Snow Queen
10-year-old Abbi-Mae has also got into the spirit of World Book Day with her Narnia-inspired outfit.
With glittery white make-up and expertly styled hair, her mother Dawn said: “She chose the White Queen from the Chronicles of Narnia as it is her favourite story.”
Granny chic
10-year-old Oliver dressed up as the one and only Gangster Granny for his last World Book Day at primary school.
Relying on an inflatable cane for support, the David Walliams superfan even whipped out a wig and some pink lipstick to pay tribute to his favourite literary character.
Heart it
When it comes to classic children’s stories, you don’t get much better than Alice in Wonderland.
And four-year-old Isabelle would agree.
The Alice in Wonderland superfan has dressed as the Queen of Hearts for World Book Day as it’s her favourite bedtime story – and her mum has totally nailed the intricate hair and make-up.
Fun for all the family
Proving World Book Day isn’t just about the kids, this mum – who is also an avid reader – dressed up as a witch to drop the kids off at school.
While Rory, 8, tested our knowledge by dressing as Andy from the Treehouse Series, 6-year-old Holly makes for the cutest Alice in Wonderland we’ve seen all day.
Original bookworm
As all devoted Beauty & The Beast fans will already know, Belle is the biggest bookworm in the Disney world.
A fitting choice for World Book Day, this sweet primary school student has got the Disney princess totally spot-on, from the curled hair right down to the yellow silk gloves.
In more parenting news, this mum has sparked debate after revealing she confiscates the phone of every child who enters her house.
And Good Morning Britain viewers have blasted a “cruel” mum who is raising her baby a VEGAN.
Plus this shopper has blasted a woman who publicly shamed a frazzled mum and her naughty son at the supermarket.
