Summit1g Holds on to Top Spot Thanks to CoD Warzone – Top Twitch Channels March 9-15

With traditional sports closed until further notice and a brand new battle royale driving viewers to Twitch, the platform’s top streamers saw a big week of growth. Combined hours watched for this week’s Top 10 reached 13.84M compared to 12.31M the previous week.

The release of Call of Duty Warzone, the free-to-play battle royale mode for the latest Call of Duty title, helped top streamer Jaryd “Summit1g” Lazar hold onto the lead position on Twitch for the second consecutive week.

LOOT.BET Dota Summit 12, the latest in Beyond the Summit’s unique brand of invitational tournaments, showed that like the pro leagues moving online, Dota 2 can still draw a crowd without live events.

The following content is ranked according to the total number of hours watched on Twitch from Monday to the following Sunday.

The New Faces of Big Battle Royals

For nearly four years, the release of a new battle royale title has meant huge spikes in viewership for the genre’s biggest names. However, with two of those leaders off the platform (Tyler “Ninja” Blevins and Michael “Shroud” Grzesiek) the release of Call of Duty Warzone has given rise to a few different faces such as Chris “Sacriel” Ball, and led to an extended stay atop the mountain for Lazar.

The veteran streamer broke 3M hours watched, a rarity for even the biggest streamers, reaching 3.31M over the course of the week. The top 10 was largely dominated by Warzone streamers, including Félix “xQc” Lengyel, who’s strong second-place performance was still well behind Lazar at 1.70M

Two Summits in the Top 3

Beyond The Summit is best known for its laid-back invitational tournaments, known as Summits, which are broadcast out a house in Southern California. Dota 2 has been among the esports most affected by the coronavirus pandemic with multiple Majors having been canceled. However, despite its casual vibes, Summit consistently delivers top-level competition, giving Dota 2 fans an acceptable replacement for the high stakes tournaments lost to the virus.

BTS’s latest Summit generated 1.49M hours watched on the organizer’s main channel, making it the most-watched esports channel of the week.
